IUP rallied for two goals in the final
7:17, including the game winner with 24 seconds left, to post a
come-from-behind 2-1 win over Bloomsburg, moving the Crimson Hawks into
first place in the PSAC and likely back into the top spot in the next Division
II poll.
The win was the second of the season for
IUP over Bloomsburg, with both coming when the Huskies were ranked No. 1
in the nation. On September 11, the Crimson Hawks were a 5-1 winner at
Miller Stadium, snapping Bloomsburg’s 28-game winning streak.
IUP improved to 12-2 overall with its
sixth straight win and is 9-1 in the PSAC, one game ahead of 8-2
Bloomsburg and 7-1 Kutztown. The Crimson Hawks play at Kutztown on
Tuesday and will looking to avenge a 1-0 loss to the Golden Bears on
September 15.
IUP trailed 1-0 on a goal by Bloomsburg’s
Samantha Kropa just 4:30 into the contest, but the play of goalkeeper
Lydia Dolly kept the Crimson Hawks in the contest. Despite being
outshot 19-7 in the first half and 21-12 overall, Dolly made 13 saves
to hold the Huskies lead to just one.
The play of Dolly was rewarded by Liz
Marosky scored her fourth goal of the season off a penalty corner assist
by Liz Martini. With overtime looming, Barbara Heemelaar beat
Bloomsburg goalkeeper Allison Kiants in the waning seconds to give the
Crimson Hawks the victory. Jess Frantz had the assist on the
Heemelaar goal.
Following the game at Kutztown, IUP plays
its final home game of the season on Friday at 4 p.m. against Slippery
Rock.
