The IUP field hockey team has received its fifth consecutive bid to the NCAA Division II tournament and will host Shippensburg in an opening round game Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Crimson Hawks, seeded No. 2 in the South Region, bring a 15-2 record into the tournament while the Raiders are 17-4. IUP won both regular season games versus Shippensburg, winning 2-1 at home on September 10 and taking a 3-1 decision on the road October 8.

The winner of the IUP-Shippensburg game will advance to the NCAA Final Four at Bloomsburg and will face the host Huskies (21-1) in one semifinal contest on Friday, November 14 at 5:30.

In the North Region, the quarterfinal game will be Southern Connecticut State (13-9) at UMass Lowell (18-4). The winner of that game will play Bentley (17-5) in the first semifinal game at 3 p.m.

The two semifinal winners will square off for the national championship on Sunday, November 16 at 1 p.m. Bloomsburg is the two-time defending champion and earned the overall No. 1 seed in the tournament with a 5-0 win over IUP in the PSAC final last Saturday.

In its previous five appearances in the NCAA tournament, IUP has a record of 2-5, including a 4-3 loss to Bloomsburg in the semifinals last November in Lowell, Mass. IUP has earned both of its NCAA tournament wins over Shippensburg, defeating the Raiders 2-0 in 2004 and 2-1 in 2006.

Tickets for the IUP-Shippensburg game will be $5 for adults, $3 for students and $1 for children 12 and under as well as senior citizens. There will be no complimentary admissions.
