Senior Sylvia Guerrieri, junior Lydia Dolly and sophomore Jess Frantz have been named to the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-America team, with Guerrieri earning first team honors for the third straight year. Dolly joined Guerrieri on the first team while Frantz was chosen to the second team. It is the first time that Dolly and Frantz have been recognized by the NFCA. Guerrieri (Boyertown/Brandywine Heights) was second on the Crimson Hawks in goals with nine and points with 25 while placing third with seven assists this season. She ranked ninth in the PSAC in assists per game (0.39), 14th in the conference and 25th nationally in points per game (1.39) and tied for 18th in the league and tied for 32nd in the nation in goals per game (0.50). Guerrieri started all 81 games in her four years at IUP and helped lead the Crimson Hawks to a record of 61-20 over that span, including the 2007 PSAC championship, the first ever for IUP in field hockey. She scored 17 goals and added 25 assists in her career and tied for the team lead in assists with 10 in 2006. IUP qualified for the NCAA tournament in each of her four seasons. Dolly (Lancaster/Hempfield) led the nation this season with a goals against average of 0.71 and 10 shutouts while leading the PSAC and ranking second nationally with a .800 save percentage., stopping 56 shots while allowing only 14 goals. In her three seasons at IUP, Dolly has started 59 of 60 games and has a record of 46-13 and no other player has seen action in goal for the Crimson Hawks the past two seasons. She has made 277 saves while allowing only 63 goals for a career goals against average of 1.03 and a save percentage of .815. Frantz (Kunkletown/Pleasant Valley) started all 18 games this season and was second on the team with eight assists while ranking seventh in the PSAC and 15th in the nation in assists per game at 0.44. She also scored eight goals and was tied for 38th in the country with 0.44 per game. Her 24 points gave her 1.33 per game, the 28th best figure in the nation. Frantz had three goals and two assists for eight points in an October 12 win over Bellarmine. In her two-year career she has started all 39 games and has 18 goals and 10 assists. As a freshman in 2007, she was second on the team with 10 goals. IUP posted a record of 15-3 in 2008 and won the PSAC West title. The Crimson Hawks reached the championship game of the conference tournament and qualified for the NCAA tournament for the sixth consecutive season. |
