Stats

IUP trailed by only one goal in the closing minutes before Shippensburg put in the final four goals of the game to secure a 12-7 victory over the Crimson Hawks in a non-conference contest Saturday.

IUP (3-7) got a team-leading three goals from Amanda Fetter while Corinne Miller scored twice and Becca Vogt and Alex Slinkard both had a goal and two assists. Katie Lee made 19 saves and also fielded four ground balls to pace the Crimson Hawks defense.

Rachael Murray led Shippensburg (8-6) with five goals. Gayle Kuntzmann and Hannah Taylor both had a pair of goals and Meghan Kearney recorded six saves.

IUP held leads of 2-1 and 4-3 in the first half but trailed 6-4 entering the final minute of the opening period. Fetter scored with just 17 seconds left before halftime and Vogt found the net 35 seconds into the second half to tie it up at 6.

Murray scored the next two goals to put Shippensburg back ahead 8-6 before Fetter cut the Crimson Hawk deficit in half with 20:09 remaining. But IUP was not able to crack the Raider defense the rest of the way.

Kuntzmann broke a stretch of eight scoreless minutes to give Shippensburg a 9-6 lead with 12:10 left, and the Raiders added three goals in the final five minutes to pull away.

IUP is back in action Tuesday with a 4 p.m. PSAC West game at Mercyhurst.
