IUP dug itself an early hole and went on to drop a 22-7 decision to Mercyhurst in a PSAC West game Tuesday in Erie.

The Crimson Hawks fell behind 17-2 at halftime before playing the third-ranked Lakers even after intermission. IUP is now 3-8 overall and 1-5 in the PSAC West and Mercyhurst is 12-1 and 6-1 in the division.

Amanda Fetter scored five of IUP's seven goals to take over the team lead in that department with 25 on the year. Becca Vogt had a goal and assist while Stephanie Bianco added a goal and Alex Slinkard contributed an assist. Katie Lee played 57 minutes in goal and made six saves.

Kimberly Masterton led the Lakers with seven goals, followed by Kristie Jennings with five and Breanna Haggerty with four. Three goalies combined for eight saves for Mercyhurst.

IUP returns home to face Edinboro Thursday at 6 p.m.
