Sarah DeMaio scored four goals and combined with Beth Glasshagel to score three times after Slippery Rock tied the game late in the second half, giving IUP a 13-11 victory in the home finale for the 2009 season. The Crimson Hawks improved to 6-9 overall and 2-6 in the PSAC West. Slippery Rock is 5-12 and 0-8 in the division. Glasshagel finished with three goals, Alex Slinkard and Lauren Montague had two and Stephanie Bianco and Amanda Fetter both contributed one for IUP. Becca Vogt had two assists and Bianco and Fetter both had one. Senior Katie Lee, IUP's all-time leader in saves and minutes played in goal, stopped 13 shots in her final game at Miller Stadium. Fetter is also completing her college lacrosse career following the season finale at Seton Hill Saturday. Casey Quinn led Slippery Rock with five goals and Amy Halls had three. Ashley Winkelspecht made 15 saves. The Rock rallied from deficits of 8-3 and 10-7 to tie the game with three consecutive goals, the final one by Katie Roof with 10:54 remaining that evened the game at 10. But the IUP defense held Slippery Rock off the scoreboard over the next six minutes while taking back control. The Crimson Hawks gained the lead for good with 9:31 left on a goal by Glasshagel, and DeMaio scored her fourth of the game just 43 seconds later to make it 12-10. Glasshagel found the cage again at the 7:02 mark to give IUP a three-goal margin. Slippery Rock finally broke through on a goal by Halls with 4:59 left but the Crimson Hawks were able to play keepaway for most of the remaining time to secure their third victory in the past four games. |
