A little more than two months after leading IUP to the finest season in its lacrosse history and earning PSAC Coach of the Year honors, Liz Ramsey was named the program's fulltime head coach on Thursday. Ramsey took over as interim head coach last February, just 45 days before the start of the 2007 season and less than six months after graduating from IUP, after the sudden resignation of Kiki Chesterton. Ramsey had been hired in September as an assistant coach before assuming control of the program five months later. Despite the unusual start to the season, Ramsey was able to lead the Crimson Hawks to an overall record of 7-10 and a conference slate of 6-8. IUP was in contention for a first ever berth in the PSAC playoffs until the final day of the regular season. The seven wins are tied for the second most in a single season in IUP history while the six PSAC victories equaled the combined total of the first nine years of the program. IUP had never won more than two conference games in one season until the 2007 campaign. Ramsey, a four-year letterwinner for IUP from 2003-06, oversaw a Crimson Hawk offense that set school season records for goals scored (231), assists (130) and total points (361). Four of the team's eight PSAC losses came against West Chester and Lock Haven, the top two teams in the nation, and IUP posted its first ever win over Millersville and second over Shippensburg. In addition to her conference coaching accolades, Ramsey also saw four of her players named to the All-PSAC team, including first team selections for Jackie Rutkowski and Katie Lee. The 2007 season marked the first time IUP has had a recipient of a PSAC postseason award (player, rookie or coach of the year) and had as many as four players selected to the all-conference team. Ramsey played in 62 games during her IUP career, the most in school history at the time of her graduation and currently tied for third. She served as a team captain her senior year and earned her bachelor's degree in health and physical education with a concentration in sports administration in August 2006. A native of Philadelphia, Ramsey was an IUP and PSAC Scholar-Athlete and was actively involved in community service projects during her college career. She participated in the IUP Center for Student Life "Get Carded" program and was a recipient of IUP's Outstanding Volunteer Award in April 2007.
