A total of six IUP lacrosse players were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Honor Roll for the 2006-07 school year. Selected for the award were seniors Erin Cunnane, Jackie Rutkowski, Kristin Slemmer and Mallory Zelawski and juniors Brittany Pikur and Lauren Abbott. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior with a cumulative grade point average of 3.50. IUP had the most players recognized among the eight PSAC schools that sponsor lacrosse and was tied with C.W. Post and St. Thomas Aquinas for the most among all Division II schools. Cunnane (Lansdale/North Penn) graduated in May with a degree in psychology, posting a cumulative grade point average of 3.54, including a 4.0 mark in the spring. She received the Coach's Award for the 2007 season. Cunnane (right), who was also on the swimming team at IUP, will attend graduate school at West Virginia University while serving as a graduate assistant for the swimming and diving team at Bethany College. Rutkowski (Upper St. Clair/Upper St. Clair) and Slemmer (North Wales/North Penn) are health and physical education majors and will graduate in December after completing their student teaching in the fall. Rutkowski (left) has a 3.53 cumulative GPA while Slemmer has a 3.80 average. In 2007, Rutkowski led IUP in goals (50), assists (29) and points (79), setting single season records in all three categories, and was named first team All-PSAC. She holds career marks in assists with 58 and points with 192 while ranking second in goals with 134. She was selected the team's most outstanding offensive player. Slemmer (right) scored 32 goals and had 28 assists for 60 points in her four-year career. She stands seventh in school history in assists and 11th in points. Slemmer was chosen as the winner of the team's Unsung Hero award.
Zelawski (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) is an earth and space science education major and a recipient of the PSAC Top Ten award in the spring for combined athletic and academic excellence. She has a 4.0 GPA for her entire college career and will graduate summa cum laude in December. Zelawski (left) was named second team All-PSAC after finishing third on the Crimson Hawks in goals (43), assists (17) and points (60). She is third in career goals (106) and points (144) and fourth in assists (38). Pikur (Gibsonia/Pine-Richland), who also plays on the IUP soccer team, has a 3.67 GPA as a health and physical education major. She scored 26 goals and had 13 assists during the 2007 season and ranks seventh in school career record book with 66 goals and 86 points. Pikur (right) earned the team's Spirit Award.
Abbott (North Potomac, Md./The Barrie School) is a mathematics and physics major with a 3.77 GPA. She is one of the anchors of the IUP defense and contributed two goals and four assists during the 2007 season. Abbott (left) was chosen as the team's top defensive player last year.
