IUP lacrosse coach Mindy Richmond is volunteering her time this summer to help organize and develop a girl's lacrosse program at Indiana High School.

Richmond is working with Allen Affolter, the president of the Indiana Area Lacrosse Club, to run start-up practices in order to familiarize local players with the sport. Practices are being held at the East Pike Field at the White Township Recreation Complex.

The team is scheduled to play a series of exhibition games in the spring and plan to have a varsity program in place by the spring of 2011. Richmond will also be conducting clinics in the fall to continue with the coaching that began in the summer.

"I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to help administer the first girl's lacrosse program in the area," Richmond said. "I am happy to be able to share my knowledge and spread interest in the sport."
