Heather Robbins scored two goals and IUP snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-0 shutout at Clarion, keeping the Crimson Hawks squarely in the hunt for a berth in the PSAC playoffs. IUP improved to 12-7 and 8-5 in the PSAC West while Clarion dropped to 3-12-3 and 0-10-3 in the division. The Crimson Hawks have 24 points and currently hold the fourth and final spot out of the PSAC West in the race for a berth in the conference playoffs. Mercyhurst, which has finished its conference schedule, leads the PSAC West with 28 points, followed by Gannon with 26, Slippery Rock with 25, IUP and California with 23. The Crimson Hawks finish the regular season at home versus Gannon on Saturday while Slippery Rock hosts California. IUP can finish anywhere from second in the division and a first round home game in the PSAC playoffs all the way to fifth and out of the postseason tournament. Robbins scored the only goal the Crimson Hawks would need in the first half, assisted by Paige Virgara. IUP added two more goals in the second half, with Sarah Romasco putting in a rebound and Robbins scoring on a breakaway with just five seconds remaining in the game. Romasco's goal was her team-leading 15th of the season while Robbins is second with 12. Kelly Brennan played the first 64:26 in goal for IUP and made one save while April Hunsberger stopped two shots in 25:34 of action. Jenna Kulik had six saves for the Golden Eagles. The IUP game versus Gannon at the South Campus Field gets under way at 2 p.m. The PSAC playoffs begin on Tuesday with the No. 4 seed playing at No. 1 and No. 3 visiting No. 2 in both divisions. |
