IUP continued its preparation for the upcoming 2007 season with a 9-0 victory over Geneva in a scrimmage Thursday night at Miller Stadium. The Crimson Hawks scored three times in the first half on goals by Sarah Romasco, Ray Schreiner and Kim Kowalski. April Hunsberger made one save over the opening 45 minutes. In the second half, Jena Chatlos and Brianna Liebold both found the net twice, and Allison Keller and Kelsey Hernjak also scored for the Crimson Hawks. Romasco, Elysse Dluhos and Ashley Moyer each had two assists on the evening while Schreiner and Chatlos both had one. IUP held a 50-2 advantage in shots, with Geneva goalkeepers combining for 24 saves. "It was a great team effort for the first game, even for a scrimmage, and the incoming freshmen needed a test to see how they stack up against another opponent," said IUP assistant coach Howard Magee. IUP, ranked 15th in the National Soccer Coaches Association preseason poll, opens the regular season on Monday at Wheeling Jesuit. The Crimson Hawks play their first home and PSAC West game on Wednesday against Edinboro beginning at 4 p.m. |
