IUP sophomore forward Sarah Romasco has won her second straight PSAC West Player of the Week award for women's soccer. Romasco scored six goals and added two assists as the Crimson Hawks defeated Stonehill, Shippensburg and Lock Haven last week. The win over the Bald Eagles last Saturday wrapped up a PSAC playoff berth for IUP. Romasco opened the week with her fourth career hat trick, scoring three times including the game winner in a 4-3 victory over Stonehill. She also assisted on a goal in that game. Romasco added a goal and assist in a 5-4 overtime win over Shippensburg before scoring twice in the victory over Lock Haven. Including her goal and assist in Monday's 3-2 overtime loss to Mercyhurst, Romasco has 18 goals, 10 assists and 46 points on the season, leading IUP in all three categories. She is first in the PSAC in goals and points and second in assists and game-winning goals with four. Nationally, the reigning PSAC West Player and Rookie of the Year stands 11th in the latest Division II statistics in points per game (2.69) and 14th in goals per game (1.063). Romasco holds two of the top three single season point totals in school history with 55 last year and 46 so far this season. Her 18 goals are fourth in a single season, and she is also second in that department with 21 a year ago. Her 10 assists is tied for second and just three behind her own school record. In only two seasons at IUP, Romasco already ranks third in school history in goals with 39 and points with 101 while placing fifth with 23 assists. The Crimson Hawks (11-6, 5-3 PSAC West) wrap up the regular season with division games at Clarion on Wednesday and California on Saturday. If IUP wins both games, it will host Edinboro in the opening round of the PSAC playoffs next Tuesday. If IUP ties or loses one of those games, the team will travel to Edinboro for its first round contest. |
