Sarah Romasco posted her fourth career hat trick in only her second season at IUP, scoring three times to lead the Crimson Hawks (9-5) to a 4-3 victory over Stonehill (7-5-2) in a non-conference game on Monday at the South Campus Field.

Romasco’s third goal of the game came with 16:36 remaining and capped a comeback from a 3-2 halftime deficit.  She also assisted on Kim Kowalski’s game tying goal with 5:40 expired in the second half.

Romasco has 14 goals and eight assists for 36 points on the season, leading IUP in all three categories.  She moved into third place on the IUP career scoring list with 91 points and stands fourth in goals with 35 and fifth with 21 assists.

Romasco got IUP off to a quick start, scoring twice in the opening 13:43 of the game to stake the Crimson Hawks to an early 2-0 lead.  Melissa Kornock assisted on the first goal.

But Stonehill responded with three goals in a span of 9:09, getting scores from Lauren Boyd, Ashley Bourne and Kelly Regan, the latter giving the visitors a 3-2 lead with 21:33 left in the first half.  The Skyhawks maintained the lead until IUP scored twice after intermission.

IUP’s Kelsey Dowling and Stonehill’s Alex Eckhardt both made seven saves.  The Crimson Hawks held a 20-18 margin in shots while the Skyhawks took five corner kicks to three for IUP.

IUP finishes its six-game homestand with a PSAC crossover game against Shippensburg on Thursday and a PSAC West contest against Lock Haven on Saturday.
