IUP junior Sarah Romasco has been selected as a first team member of the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II squad for women's soccer and will be on the ballot for Academic All-America honors. Romasco (Freedom/Ambridge) earned a spot on the team on the strength of her performance on the field and in the classroom. Through the spring 2008 semester she has a cumulative grade point average of 3.74 as a math education major and has been on the Dean's List each semester, including two with a 4.0 average. On the field, Romasco has been one of the top players in IUP history, currently ranking second on the school career chart in goals with 56, assists with 31 and points with 143. She only needs four goals, three assists and nine points to pass Erin Falce for the top spot in all three categories. Entering the final game of the regular season Saturday versus Gannon, Romasco is second in the PSAC in points with 37 and tied for third with 15 goals and seven assists. She scored three goals in an 8-0 win over Pitt Johnstown for her fifth career hat trick and one shy of her school record of four set versus Clarion last season. Romasco was the PSAC West Rookie and Player of the Year in 2006 and has been on the All-PSAC West and Daktronics All-Northeast Region first team in each of her first two seasons. She has two of the top three scoring seasons in IUP history with 55 points in 2006 and 51 last year. During her time at IUP, the Crimson Hawks have a record of 39-22. She helped lead the team to a berth in the NCAA tournament in 2006, scoring a goal in a 3-1 win over New Haven for IUP's first-ever postseason victory. |
