Marissa Leslie and Kristen Tunno combined for 15 hits, 10 runs scored and seven RBIs to highlight a Sunday afternoon in which the Crimson Hawks totaled 34 hits in sweeping a PSAC Central doubleheader from Clarion by scores of 13-7 and 8-3 at Podbielski Field.

The Crimson Hawks (16-14, 3-5 PSAC Central) had 20 hits in the first game, with Leslie going 5-for-5 with three runs scored and Tunno going 4-for-5 with four RBIs. Both players had singles in a five-run fourth that wiped out a 6-3 Clarion lead. Alex Daughenbaugh and Brittany Allman added three hits each and Daughenbaugh scored three times.

IUP took a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run double by Sam Goettman and Michelle Bivona singled in a run in the second. But Clarion (4-18, 0-8) scored four times in the third, including three bases loaded walks, and twice in the fourth on a home run by Carlie Cook to go ahead 6-3.

Clarion committed three errors to help contributed to the IUP rally in the bottom of the fourth. Tunno and Jamie Palmerio drove in runs with singles as the Crimson Hawks had four hits in the inning. Tunno and McCormick had RBI doubles in the fifth and Tunno doubled in two more runs in the sixth as IUP pulled away.

Tunno had four more hits, scored three times and drove in a pair in the second game and McCormick and Kelsey Ferguson both had three RBIs. Leslie had two hits and scored three times as IUP completed the sweep.

Tunno tripled in a run and scored on a ground out in the first and then singled in Leslie, who had doubled, in the third to give IUP a 3-0 lead. But the Golden Eagles bounced back to score three times in the fourth to tie it up.

The Crimson Hawks broke the tie in the fifth when Tunno, McCormick and Goettman singled and Tunno came across on a fielder's choice grounder. IUP busted the game open with four in the sixth, with McCormick and Ferguson driving in two runs each with singles.

Jenny Shaffer was the winning pitcher in both games. She relieved Erin Holloway in the fourth inning of the first game and was the beneficiary of the IUP comeback while allowing only one hit and one unearned run with four strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Shaffer then pitched a five-hitter in a complete game in the nightcap.

IUP is back in action Tuesday with a non-conference home doubleheader versus Seton Hill at 2:30.
