Megan McCormick hit a two-run homer and IUP took a 2-1 lead into the sixth inning before Bloomsburg struck for seven runs and completed a doubleheader sweep by a score of 8-2 Thursday. The Huskies scored six early runs and defeated the Crimson Hawks 7-1 in the first game.

IUP is now 16-18 overall and 3-9 in the PSAC Central. Bloomsburg, ranked 16th in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, is 28-4 and 13-1 in the division.

The Crimson Hawks play at Mansfield Friday in a doubleheader that will go a long way in deciding the third and final team out of the PSAC Central to qualify for the conference playoffs.

The Mountaineers are 5-9 in the division and can clinch a berth with a sweep over IUP. Should the Crimson Hawks win both games, they would only need to win one of two games versus last place Clarion Saturday to make the playoffs.

If IUP and Mansfield split the twinbill and the Crimson Hawks win twice at Clarion, the playoff berth will come down to a coin toss between the two teams.

In the first game versus Bloomsburg, IUP fell behind 4-0 after one inning and a two-run homer by Tara Reed made it 6-0 in the second. The Crimson Hawks scored their only run of the game off Reed in the fourth when Marissa Leslie and Kristen Tunno singled and Leslie scored on an error.

Erin Holloway held the Husky bats in check for the first three innings, allowing only one hit and striking out seven over that time. McCormick broke up a scoreless tie with a two-out homer in the fourth that also plated Alex Daughenbaugh, who had singled to lead off the inning.

Bloomsburg scored a run in its half of the fourth and went quietly in the fifth before exploding in the sixth to earn the sweep. The Huskies pounded out seven hits in scoring seven times in the inning.
