IUP softball coach Ali Ferrari has stepped down to take a position on the staff of new Coastal Carolina head coach Kelley Green. Green was the head coach at fellow PSAC Central member Lock Haven the last 10 years. She led the Bald Eagles to the Division II national championship two times in the past four seasons. Coastal Carolina is a Division I program located in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and is a member of the Big South Conference. Ferrari spent two seasons as head coach at IUP after serving as an assistant coach under Sue Snyder the previous three years. The Crimson Hawks had a record of 36-45 during Ferrari's tenure as head coach and qualified for the PSAC playoffs in 2008. Under Ferrari's direction, pitcher Erin Holloway was named the PSAC West Freshman of the Year in 2008 and shortstop Marissa Leslie earned the same award in the PSAC Central this past season. The IUP softball program also excelled academically with Ferrari at the helm. The current members of the team have a cumulative grade point average of 3.37, and the program had a GPA of between 3.3 and 3.5 during her time as an assistant coach. A search is under way for Ferrari's replacement. Megan Timpf will remain at IUP for her second season as a graduate assistant coach but is spending the summer playing for the Canadian national team. |
