The IUP tennis team rolled to an 8-1 season opening victory over Fairmont State with four freshmen combining to lose a total of only three games in their singles matches. Chloe Pike and Emilia Osborne, both first-year players from England, posted 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 1 and No 3 singles, respectively, while a third freshman from England, Katie Eaton, took a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles. The fourth freshman singles winner for the Crimson Hawks was Kelly McBryan from Grove City, who dropped one game in her straight sets win at No. 6, while senior Alyssa Shubra took a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 4. IUP swept the three doubles matches, including victories by Pike and Osborne at No. 1, Eaton and Emily Shubra and No. 2 and Alyssa Shubra and Alex Ballard at No. 3. The Crimson Hawks hit the road next weekend for matches versus Cheyney on Friday and West Chester on Saturday, with both matches taking place at West Chester. Singles No. 1 -- Chloe Pike (IUP) d.
