The IUP women's tennis team is tied for 10th in the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic Region poll for the 2009-10 season while freshmen Chloe Pike, Katie Eaton and Emilia Osborne all received individual rankings. Pike ranks ninth after a 10-2 fall season at No. 1 singles while Eaton ranks 12th after winning eight of 10 matches at No. 2 singles. The No. 1 doubles team of Pike and Osborne are currently ranked second in the region with a 6-2 record. This is the first time IUP has been ranked in the top 10 in the region since 2005. IUP has also not had any individual players ranked since Yvonne Niederbracht during the 2004-05 season. The Crimson Hawks won all five of their dual matches during the fall season. Pike reached the singles semifinals of the PSAC individual tournament and teamed with Osborne to advance to the semifinals of the doubles tournament. The women's tennis team opens its spring season February 19 with a home match against regionally ranked West Virginia Wesleyan at the Greensburg Racquet Club beginning at 12:30. |
