IUP battled back from a two game deficit to defeat PSAC West opponent Mercyhurst 3-2 Saturday at Memorial Field House. The Crimson Hawks improved to 15-11 overall and 8-5 in the conference, while the Lakers fell to 17-8 and 8-5 in the PSAC. In the first two sets IUP fell behind early and dropped both decisions 25-23 and 25-13. In the third set Jessica Bodkin posted the final kill to give the Crimson Hawks a 25-21 victory. IUP took a 26-24 win in the fourth set on a Mercyhurst attack error. In the fifth set the Lakers posted the first four points of the set but IUP rallied to take the 15-13 decision. The Crimson Hawks were led by Laura McFadden with 10 digs, 11 kills and a team leading .321 hitting percentage. Bodkin had a team high 15 kills, two aces, and seven digs, while Chelsey Kreinbrook led the way with 45 assists and two aces for IUP. Emily Pany, No.3 in the nation in digs per set average, added 13 digs to her total and Alyssa Prince chipped in with 13 kills and eight digs for the Crimson Hawks. IUP will be back on the road Friday against Gannon at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday against Edinboro at 3:00 p.m. |
