Freshman Maddie Schulte
(pictured) had
18 kills, hit .371 and added a pair of blocks to lead IUP to a 3-1 victory
over Georgian Court in the final game of the opening day of the Crimson
Hawk/Best Western Invitational at Memorial Field House.
The Crimson Hawks got into
the win column this season with their 30-21, 30-23, 23-30, 30-20 victory.
Earlier in the day, IUP
rallied from two games down before dropping a 33-31, 30-28, 19-30, 21-30,
17-15 decision to Adelphi.
Tessa Siewert and Hristina
Denic also reached double digits in kills with 13 and 11, respectively in
the win over Georgian Court. Tessa Irwin contributed seven kills and
hit .462.
Emily McCombie had 47
assists, five service aces and four digs. Emily Pany led the defensive
effort with 15 digs.
Schulte also had 18 kills
in the loss to Adelphi to go along with seven digs and two blocks.
Denic added a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs along with five aces.
Irwin and Laura Robinette
both had eight kills, with Irwin making five aces. McCombie (26) and
Chelsey Kreinbrook (22) combined for 48 assists, and Pany made 27 digs.
IUP concludes play in the
tournament on Saturday with matches against Salem International at noon and
Pitt Johnstown at 7 p.m..
