IUP Sweeps Salem International and Pitt Johnstown to Conclude Play at Crimson Hawks/Best Western Invitational (9/1/07)

IUP concluded play at its own Crimson Hawk/Best Western Invitational on Saturday by defeating Salem International and Pitt Johnstown while losing only one game in the process.  The two victories gave IUP a three-game winning streak.

The Crimson Hawks downed Salem International, 3-1, before blanking Pitt Johnstown in three games.  Scores against Salem were 30-18, 29-31, 30-17, 30-13 while IUP downed the Mountain Cats by a tally of 30-15, 30-23, 30-16.

Maddie Schulte had 14 kills in both matches, hitting .458 against Pitt Johnstown and .370 against Salem.  Tessa Irwin (pictured) twice recorded 10 kills, hitting .429 for the day, and added five service aces against the Tigers.  Tessa Siewert had 12 kills and nine aces against Salem and four aces and four blocks against Pitt Johnstown.

Hristina Denic had 15 kills and 20 digs in the two matches, Emily McCombie dished out 67 assists while Chelsey Kreinbrook added 12 assists against Pitt Johnstown.

After its two matches against West Virginia Conference members on Saturday, IUP continues its march through the WVIAC this week.  The Crimson Hawks travel to Alderson-Broaddus on Tuesday before hosting the first-ever PSAC-WVIAC crossover tournament next weekend.

In that event, IUP will play Fairmont State on Friday and West Virginia Wesleyan and Seton Hill on Saturday.
