The IUP men's basketball team will stage its fifth annual Alumni Golf Outing Sept. 17 at the Indiana Country Club. The event is designed to raise money exclusively for athletic scholarships for current and future Crimson Hawk basketball players.
The honorary guest at this year's golf outing will be longtime college and professional basketball announcer Bill Raftery. Raftery joins a group of distinguished honorary guests that includes Chuck Daly, Rollie Massimino and Jay Wright.
Raftery has served as an analyst for CBS, ESPN and CBS Radio for almost three decades and is a fixture on coverage of the NCAA Tournament as well as numerous conference championship game broadcasts. He is also the lead analyst for the NBA's New Jersey Nets.
From 1970-81 Raftery was the head coach at Seton Hall, leading the Pirates to seven straight winning seasons and an overall record of 154-141 and two NIT appearances. He was also the head coach at Fairleigh Dickinson for five years, winning 63 games and earning New Jersey Basketball Writers Coach of the Year honors in 1967-68.
The day's activities begin with registration at 10 a.m. followed by lunch at 11 and golf at 11:30 using a shamble format. In the evening, cocktails will be served at 4:30 and dinner, including and auction and raffle, is at 5:30.
