Initiated for the 2011-12 academic year, the PSAC Champion Scholar Awards are modeled after the NCAA's Elite 90 awards and honor the student-athlete with the top grade point average who is competing at the site of each of the PSAC's 23 team championship finals. More information on the PSAC site

Through the 2019-20 academic year, IUP boasts the most PSAC Champion Scholars of any school in the conference with 28. Mercyhurst has 24, Gannon has 23, Cal U has 20, and East Stroudsburg has 18. Other schools' tallies include Slippery Rock with 16; Clarion and West Chester with 13 apiece; Bloomsburg with 12; Seton Hill with 10; Edinboro and Kutztown with nine; Shippensburg with eight; Millersville with four; and Lock Haven and Mansfield with two apiece.
IUP's Alex Hampel, with three career PSAC Champion Scholar awards, has the most ever for an individual in the history of the honor.
IUP program leaders are women's tennis and men's track & field (indoor and outdoor) with four each. Men's basketball, women's basketball, and men's cross country all have two. Programs with one each include women's cross country, field hockey, football, women's lacrosse, men's swimming, women's track & field and women's volleyball.
