Jared Long, Nafee Harris and Brianna Liebold each turned in winning performances and gained provisional qualification for the NCAA outdoor meet at the Maryland Invitational.
Long won the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 53.83 and Harris had a winning distance of 23 feet, 11 inches in the long jump and both are ranked third in the PSAC in their respective events.
Liebold met the NCAA standard in winning the triple jump with an effort of 39-4 ½ and is first in the conference standings and seventh nationally. Harris ranks 10th in the country in the long jump while Long is 23rd in the 400 hurdles.
Several other IUP athletes won event titles at Maryland, with Leander Toney's mark of 6-8 in the high jump putting him first in the PSAC. Brandon Ford moved into fourth in the conference in winning the triple jump with a distance of 47-1 ½ while Russ Langley won the javelin (181-2) and Clint Keller took the 3000 meter steeplechase (9:56.23).
Both men's relay teams were second, including Harris, Hopeton Bailey, Alex Patterson and Elijah Williams in the 4 x 100 relay (42.86) and Long, Anthony Flowers, Victor Costello and Steve Wainwright in the 4 x 400 relay (3:25.73).
On the women's side, Laurie Ajavon was third in the long jump at 18-0 ¼, a jump that is good for second in the conference, two spots ahead of Liebold. Alyssa Taddie's time of 11:32.91 in the steeplechase placed her second in the meet and fourth in the PSAC.
Laura Nientimp placed in two events, taking fifth in the 200 meters (26.71) and sixth in the 100 meters (13.02). Nicole Shannon was third in the javelin (121-0).
