Boxscore

Erin Holloway (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) recorded her second shutout in three games, firing a one-hitter to lead IUP to a 5-0 victory over Kutztown in the championship game of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region I tournament at Podbielski Field.

The Crimson Hawks, the top seed in the Atlantic Region, improved to 36-6 and will play second-seed Bloomsburg in the Super Regional beginning Friday. The site of that best 2-out-of-3 tournament will be determined by the NCAA national committee by Tuesday morning.

Like IUP, Bloomsburg swept all three games in its half of the Atlantic Regional. The Huskies are 33-7 on the season and the defending region champion. The winner of the Super Regional heads to the College World Series May 26-30 in Salem, Va.

Kutztown finished with a record of 41-16.

Holloway (25-3) walked two and struck out eight in winning for the ninth time in as many postseason appearances. The senior righthander won all three regional games for the Crimson Hawks and six times at the PSAC tournament when she was named the MVP.

In the three regional contests, Holloway allowed only one run and seven hits while striking out 24. The shutout was her 11th of the season and 32nd of her career and she also increased her school-record totals to 76 wins, 101 complete games and 974 strikeouts.

IUP scored what turned out to be the only run it would need for Holloway in the second when Michelle Bivona (Thorndale, Pa./Coatesville) walked with two outs and scored on a double to right center by Raquel Rugani (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour ). The Golden Bears threatened in the third, getting a runner to third with two outs before Maria Isgro was six feet foul on a drive over the fence in left that would have given Kutztown the lead.

Holloway did not allow a hit until Krista Tedjeske singled with two outs in the fourth. Bri Knipe walked but Holloway stranded the runners when she got Morgan Booth to fly out to right. Despite only getting the one hit, the Golden Bears left five runners on base through the first four innings.

IUP added a second run in the sixth when Marissa Leslie (Claysburg/Claysburg-Kimmel) singled and scored on a double by Megan McCormick (Evans City/Seneca Valley).

Nicole Henninger, Kutztown's slugging third baseman with 16 home runs on the year, drove a fly ball just shy of the warning track in left center with a runner on in the bottom of the sixth that would have tied the game.

IUP tacked on three insurance runs in the top of the seventh, including an RBI single by McCormick that gave the 2010 third team All-America first baseman seven RBIs in the tournament and 18 in the postseason.

Monica Glomb worked the first 6 1-3 innings in the circle for the Golden Bears, allowing six hits and all five runs while walking four and striking out three to finish her senior season with a record of 19-7.
