MANSFIELD, TX -
Jackie Hynson (King George, VA/King George) finished fifth and
Allyson Mitidieri (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) eighth in the finals of the 200 IM at the 2012 NCAA Division II Swimming Championships on Wednesday night. Hynson's time broke Mitidieri's school record that was set just a few weeks ago at the conference championships.
Hynson finished with a time of 2:03.03, a little more than a second faster than her prelim time of 2:04.05, which seeded her sixth heading into the finals. Mitidieri's hold school record, which was set at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championships in February, was 2:05.43.
Although Mitidieri's record was broken tonight, she still swam faster than her career-best entering today, finishing with a time of 2:05.19 in the finals. She recorded a shade faster at 2:05.01 in the prelims to seed herself seventh entering the finals.
This is the sixth All-American nod for Hynson after getting two in 2010 and three more in 2011. She was honorable mention All-American in this event last season. This is Mitidieri's first All-American honor.
The eight competitors in the championship heat automatically earn All-American honors while swimmers nine thru 16 earn honorable mention All-American honors.
Prelim races pick up tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. with finals set to start at 6:00 p.m.
