EAST STROUDSBURG, PA – The Crimson Hawks fell to third-ranked East Stroudsburg 5-0 in the first round of the 2014 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women's Soccer Championships on Tuesday afternoon.
IUP entered as the eighth seed in the tournament and drew the top-seeded Warriors. East Stroudsburg will now host the semifinals and finals of the PSAC championships this coming weekend.
The first half was tightly contested, with the Crimson Hawks attempting to strike early with three shots in the game's first eight minutes. East Stroudsburg ended up owning a 7-4 edge in shots in the first 45 minutes of play, with their first goal coming in the 35th minute.
The game swung heavily to the Warriors' favor in the second half, starting with their second goal of the game in the 50th minute. They'd go on to score three more times – in the 61st, 71st and 75th minutes to pull away.
The loss drops the Crimson Hawks to 9-7-3 on the season while East Stroudsburg improves to 18-1. IUP will await word on a possible NCAA Division II postseason selection on Monday, Nov. 10.
