Box ScoreWEST CHESTER, PA – With a 5-0 shutout win over Bloomsburg in the semifinals on Thursday, the IUP women's tennis team advances to its fourth consecutive conference title game as play resumed in the 2014 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships in West Chester.
The Crimson Hawks will play rival California (PA) for the conference crown on Friday afternoon, the fourth straight time these two teams have met in the PSAC finals.
IUP dropped just eight sets in its five victories as the Crimson Hawks cruised to easy victories over the top seed from the PSAC East.
Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) picked up the clinching victory at the No. 5 singles spot, defeating Erin Reitenauer 6-1, 6-1.
Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) had IUP's other singles victory, beating Maddie Graziani 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1.
IUP had easy wins at all three doubles spots, including No.1 with Timko and
Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) getting an 8-1 victory. McFail and
Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) also had an 8-1 win at No. 2 while
Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) and
Roxana Viviana Yeh (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Cangallo Schule) scored an 8-2 victory at No. 3.
The Crimson Hawks improve to 16-8 overall with the win, setting up the expected matchup with the Vulcans for the conference championship. Cal has won all three of the previous PSAC title matches against the Crimson Hawks, while also getting an 8-1 victory in the regular matchup just 10 days ago.
The match in West Chester is set for 12 p.m.
