LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – IUP seniors
Ryan Uhl (St. Marys, Pa./St. Marys) and
Austin Mock (State College, Pa./State College) have earned postseason honors as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) released its 2015 baseball all-conference teams on Tuesday afternoon.
Uhl was named to the first team while Mock earned a second team nod, continuing IUP's run of 33 straight years with at least one all-conference performer. It was also the eighth straight year that IUP has had a first teamer on the list.
The top first baseman in the PSAC, Uhl had the best offensive season in IUP baseball history, breaking single season marks with 29 home runs, 74 runs batted in, 154 total bases and a 1.085 slugging percentage. He drew 33 walks – including eight intentional – and scored 53 runs on the year, which are second and fifth all-time, respectively in school history. He also boasted a batting average of .415, which is 11th, and tallied 59 hits.
Uhl led Division II in three categories – 29 home runs, 0.66 home runs per game, and his 1.085 slugging percentage. The former two also set new single season PSAC records. His 74 RBI this year are tied for third in Division II.
He earned two PSAC West Hitter of the Week awards, and was also an Atlantic Regional and National Hitter of the Week, chosen by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Uhl had 20 multi-RBI games, 18 multi-hit games, a season-long hitting streak of 12 games and also had owned a steak of 25 straight games of reaching base. He started all 44 of IUP's games at first base, adding eight doubles and a .536 on-base percentage. He also excelled in the field, committing just two errors on the year and boasting a .993 fielding percentage.
This is Uhl's second All-PSAC selection, honored as a second team utility pick as a freshman in 2012.
Uhl ends his career as IUP's all-time home run leader with 42. He also tops the school charts with a .646 career slugging percentage, and is third with 147 RBI and 339 total bases, sixth with 126 runs scored and seventh with 177 hits.
Along with Uhl, Mock quietly put together one of the top hitting seasons in school history. The outfielder finished the year second in school history with 16 home runs and a .756 slugging percentage, and also ranks third with 118 total bases, sixth with 50 RBI and seventh with 50 runs scored.
Mock finished second on the team with a .372 batting average, 58 hits, 12 doubles and a .465 on-base percentage. 20 times he had at least two hits in a game and also had 10 games of two-or-more RBI. His longest hitting streak of the season was 10 games.
He ended the season with four home runs and nine RBI in the four-game series with Gannon, blasting three of those home runs on Senior Day.
This is Mock's second straight All-PSAC selection after earning first team honors as a utility player last season.
Together, Uhl and Mock were the top home run hitting combination in all of college baseball with a combined 45 round-trippers on the season. For comparison, pairings from Catawba, UNC-Pembroke and Seton Hill had 35 home runs Mock's 16 are fourth in the PSAC and are also tied for 13th in Division II.
More season honors for both are expected, as regional and national postseason awards will be released in the coming weeks.
