Softball’s Season Ends with Loss to Cal in PSAC Championships

QUAKERSTOWN, Pa. – The IUP softball team's 2015 season came to a close on Friday when the Crimson Hawks fell to California (Pa.) 6-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships at Veterans Park in Quakertown.

It was an elimination game for IUP, which had gone 1-1 during the tournament's opening day on Thursday, losing to West Chester 6-5 in extra innings before a 4-0 win over Kutztown in the afternoon.

The Crimson Hawks end their season with a 19-24 overall record, earning the fourth seed in the PSAC West with a 16-14 divisional mark.

The Vulcans (31-10) finished with 10 hits on the day, and took an early 2-0 lead with a pair of run-scoring singles in the second innings. They wrapped up their scoring in the fifth with four runs on four hits.

IUP had a chance to get on the board in the second inning with a leadoff single, but would leave a runner stranded at second base. The Crimson Hawks had three hits on the day, also leaving runners on base in both the fourth and sixth innings.

Alexa Campbell (Manheim/Manheim Central ) took the loss in the circle, giving up four earned runs on 10 hits in six innings of work. The senior started all three games for the Crimson Hawks in the tournament, finishing with a 1.97 ERA in 21.1 innings of work.

Along with Campbell, the loss also ends the college careers of Stefanie McCoy (New Paris/Chestnut Ridge) and Meghan Carney (Corry/Corry). Both first team All-PSAC West selections this year at shortstop and catcher, respectively, McCoy, Carney and Campbell have helped IUP to 108 wins and three postseason appearances, including a conference championship in 2012.
