JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore guard
Carolyn Appleby (Greensburg, Pa. /Greensburg Central Catholic) scored a team-high 19 points, one of four Crimson Hawks to reach double-figures, in IUP women's basketball's 77-65 win at Pitt-Johnstown on Wednesday.
The win was the fifth straight for the Crimson Hawks, who improved to 17-5 overall and 15-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Tonight's win coupled with Edinboro's loss, vaults IUP back into second place in the division.
Appleby went 7-of-14 from the floor and 4-of-5 from the foul line, also dishing out five assists in 37 minutes on the court.
Redshirt sophomore guard
Lauren Wolosik (Pittsburgh, Pa. /North Catholic) tallied 18 points, doing damage from the foul line with a perfect 9-of-9 performance. She also grabbed six rebounds in the full 40 minutes.
Also hitting double-figures were junior forward
Megan Smith (Blain, Pa./West Perry) with 14 points and sophomore forward
Kendall Hunter (Burke, Va. /Paul VI Catholic) with a season-high 10 points.
The Crimson Hawks overcame 17 turnovers by shooting better than 50 percent from the floor as a team, while also forcing Pitt-Johnstown (7-17, 3-15) into 18 turnovers. It was the third straight game that IUP has shot at least 50 percent from the floor, averaging 85 points during that span.
