LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – For the second time in the last five years, IUP has finished second in the battle for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Dixon Trophy, as the league announced its 2016-17 standings on Tuesday afternoon.

In a tight race at the top, IUP finished with an average of 12.65 points, just 0.17 behind 2016-17 Dixon Trophy winner Shippensburg (12.82). West Chester finished third with 12.36.

The IUP men averaged 12.94 points, the highest score among all men's programs in the PSAC. Golf (conference title) and basketball (PSAC semifinalists) were the highest scoring programs with 18 and 16 points, respectively.

The IUP women averaged 12.45 points, the fourth best score in the conference. The basketball and tennis programs each won PSAC championships, while volleyball and lacrosse were both semifinalists in their respective tournaments.

IUP's 12.65 points is the program's best average in the five years of the current Dixon Trophy scoring setup. It was also won of the best of any school over that period, and would have won in 2016, 2014 or 2013.

IUP's all-time Dixon Trophy finishes
This was the second time in the last five years – and third time in the last seven – that IUP has finished in second place. Since the 1995-96 year, IUP has finished in second place six times, third place three times, and in fourth or fifth a combined five times. See below for a full list of rankings.

PSAC's Dixon Trophy
In its 22nd year of existence, the award is named in honor of F. Eugene Dixon, Jr., former chairman of Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education's Board of Governors. The Dixon Trophy is awarded annually to the top performing school in the conference, with scores given for each PSAC championship sport that a school sponsors. Point values are earned in descending order, with 18 going to the conference champion in each sport, and the average of all scores determines the champion.
